Cariad has come on a long way since she started life with us down here in Dunedin. We have had a litter from her to Bryan Timber, that produced 4 puppies, one of which I kept for myself, Moon. Sasha went to join Memtzar kennels and Blossom joined a local family. Jaspa, the only male, went to Australia where he has won all sorts of show prizes. A big male of 43 kgs in weight, and a handsome dog at that.
We have had many adventures. Cariad has accompanied me on various walking and hunting trips around South Island. She happily trots along in the bush indicating when a deer has been about by her posture, nose down and wagging tail. She is part of the team when I do rabbit eradication work, hunting away, driving through scrub and bush to locate her rabbit quarry, indicating her pursuit of a rabbit with a high pitched yipping.
She accompanies me to work occasionally, in my present job as a Trapper/Ranger, either running along with the quad or when she gets tired she hops up with me and rides along quite happily.
Quick to learn, obedient and happy to please, give her a bit of extra attention and she learns a bit quicker. She can be quite vocal and talks away in her dog language. At times I have had many chats with her!
Cariad often accompanied Rachel, my daughter, to work. Rachel worked with young to teenage children that had had a bad start in life, and having Cariad there would help bring the children out of their shell and start communicating.
