I moved from Wales UK to South Island, New Zealand in 2008 settling in Waikouaiti. Starting off in NZ with 2 dogs that we brought with us from Wales, Emma, a White GSD and Zappa a half cross white GSD x Greyhound. Emma passed away some 3 months after getting here, but Zappa plodded on, although somewhat wobbly, till 2017. There is more about Emma and Zappa in our story of "Phoenix, Early Days". I have been involved with German Shepherd Dogs and GSD crosses for some 30 years. I am a bit different in my use of my GSDs and have used them for various forms of hunting since my days as a gamekeeper back in Wales in the 1980s. The nose work, agility and obedience suit me well when working them in the field. They are also a family pet and I believe that they should be versatile and obedient enough to be trained for almost any task, sociable enough to be reliable with other dogs and people, but bold enough to protect your house or car. In 2016, I bred from a European dog having imported semen from Europe. The bit of pink ribbon on Moon in the pictures is what I used to use so I could distinguish between her and Cariad when they were out working together. Cariad is now semi retired , her two granddaughters Muffin and Zoot, the youngster, have joined Moon in the team at work.
